Happy Birthday Lady Saddler – 2nd Anniversary

Happy Birthday Lady Saddler – 2nd Anniversary

Today is the birthday of my business; The ‘Lady Saddler’ turns two years old.

Happy Birthday Anniversary to The Lady Saddler

Basic Leather Work

After completing a basic leatherwork course in April 2015, and a further two more intermediate level courses in August 2015, I quickly fell in love with the idea of working with leather.

City & Guilds Qualifications

I eventually enrolled onto a self-funded Adult Training Scheme via the Saddlery Training Centre in May 2016 where I was to learn and be assessed on how to make saddlery to a City & Guilds Level 2 and Level 3 standard.

Practical Experience

I knew I needed to gain practical experience in order to improve on my skills and techniques, so I set up a social media account on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram under the name ‘Boyden Saddlers’.

There I could showcase what I did and hope to get some practical experience from people wanting repairs doing.

It worked!

I got bridles in for some stitching repairs to broken buckles or nosebands where the padding was coming away, I would repair broken clips on headcollars and restitch saddle flaps back together.

Name Change

Quickly it became apparent that my ‘Boyden Saddler’ name sounded too masculine and so it was suggested I look for a new name.

After several weeks and many conversations later with friends, family, and other business owners it was decided that ‘The Lady Saddler’ sounded much better.

The Lady Saddler

So, on the 1st September 2016, I launched The Lady Saddler website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts and the rest they say is history.

Since I have launched, I have passed both my Level 2 and Level 3 Bridle Making exams as well as recently passing my Level 2 Saddle Making exam.

I have also undertaken a Bridle fitting course and attended a week-long Advanced Bridle Techniques course.

Social Media Presence

My social media presence has modestly increased from nothing to:

  • Facebook = 950 likes
  • Instagram = 880 followers
  • Twitter = 778 followers

Goals

My main three goals for the next 12 months are as follows:

  1. Launch a made to measure bridle make and fit service, covering Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and the Black Country.
  2. Increase my social media presence by 100%
  3. Launch an equestrian-themed bag and purse collection.

I hope you will join me on this journey and celebrate the birthday of The Lady Saddler.
